PURPOSE:To obtain the title composite material excellent in retentivity of electroconductivity, by oxidatively polymerizing aniline (derivative) or a salt thereof with an oxidizing agent in a solvent in the presence of carbon black. CONSTITUTION:100pts.wt. aniline (derivative) or a salt thereof (A) (e.g., aniline sulfate) is oxidatively polymerized in a solvent (B) (e.g., water) in an amount to give a component A concentration of 0.1-90wt% in the presence of 1-200pts. wt. carbon black (C) by using an oxidizing agent (D) (e.g., peroxosulfate) of a standard electrode potential >=0.6V to obtain the title composite material comprising a substantially linear electroconductive polymer, containing an electron acceptor as a dopant, having an electric conductivity >=10<-6>S/cm and mainly consisting of quinonediimine structure of the formula (wherein R is H or alkyl) and component C and having an absorbance ratio (740cm<-1>/810cm<-1>) in an infrared absorption spectrum of 0.02-2 and having an electric conductivity >=5S/cm.
