PURPOSE:To improve storage stability, to remove the restriction on the pot life and to enable formulation into one pack, by using a specified alkoxysilane in a binder for ceramic paints which consists of an alkoxysilane and water- dispersible silica. CONSTITUTION:An alkoxysilane of formula I, II or III (wherein R1 is gamma- glycidoxypropyl, methyl or ethyl; R2 is methyl or ethyl) (e.g., methyltriethoxysilane, gamma-glycidoxypropyltricthoxysilane) is prepd. Pref. two members selected from among these alkoxysilanes are used in combination and mixed with water-dispersible silica. The mixture is finely divided, pref. by using an ultrasonic generator to cause the hydrolysis of the alkoxysilanes by the water-dispersible silica and to form silanols, thus preparing a binder for ceramic paints.
