PURPOSE:To improve heating efficiency by using a nonmagnetic insulator to constitute the bottom of a vessel contg. a surface treating liquid for a metal strip, providing an iron core in the liquid above the strip and inductively heating the strip through the bottom of the vessel. CONSTITUTION:At least the bottom of the vessel 12 contg. the liquid 13 for making the surface treatment of the metal strip 11 is constituted of the nonmagnetic insulator and the strip 11 is passed into the treating liquid 13 by roller means 14. An induction heating means 15 consisting of a coil 17 and an iron core 16 is provided in the bottom of the vessel 12 and an iron core 18 is provided in the treating liquid 13 above the strip 11. Magnetic lines of force 19 emitted from the lower iron core 16 enter the upper iron core 18 through the strip 11, turns back from the iron core 18 and returns again to the iron core 16 through the strip 11. The magnetic lines 19 of force are thereby effectively utilized and the heating efficiency is improved.
