-?- A sequestering agent useful in chelation of calcium and/or magnesium ions in aqueous solution comprises by weight from 2 percent to 20 percent iminodi acetic acid or a water-soluble salt thereof and from 98 percent to 80 percent of nitrilotriacetic acid or a water-soluble salt thereof. The sequestering agents of the invention are particularly useful as detergent builders.
