PURPOSE:To obtain a received document picture with excellent picture quality while a sent document picture and received document picture are made related completely to each other by selecting plural photodetector arrays properly with different arrangement pitch between unit photodetectors and using them. CONSTITUTION:A 1st photodetector array 2 and a 2nd photodetector array 3 are arranged in parallel on a base 1a. For example, an arrangement pitch P1 of a unit photodetector 2a of the photodetector array 2 is set to 15mum and the arrangement pitch P2 of a unit photodetector 3a of the photodetector array 3 is set to 10mum. In sending a document picture from a main facsimile equipment to a G4 machine class 1 facsimile equipment, only the 1st photodetector array 2 is operated to make the resolution of the main facsimile equipment at the sender side and the resolution of the G4 machine class 1 are made coincident to obtain a received document picture with excellent picture quality. In sending the picture from the main facsimile equipment to a facsimile equipment of the G4 machine class 2, only the 2nd photodetector array 3 is operated.
