PURPOSE:To input picture information to a desired position with simple operation by providing a position detection signal output section to a picture information read means and providing the input section of its output signal to a tablet. CONSTITUTION:A hand scanner 2 consists of a picture read section 9, ground sensing sections 13, 13' and coils 6, 7 being output sections or the like. A coil drive circuit A4 is driven to give a current to a coil A6 thereby generating magnetic flux and a coordinate input tablet 14 being an input section detects the voltage level induced in the position detection coil 12 by the magnetic flux to obtain the coordinate of the coil A6. In driving a coil drive circuit B5, the coordinate of a coil B7 is obtained similarly and a scan point 8 being a picture read point is calculated by the position of the coils A6, B7. Thus, the direction of the hand scanner is discriminated from the relation of the two points of coordinates and even when the hand scanner is scanned in any direction, accurate picture information is inputted.
