PURPOSE:To easily form a large-sized compression molding at a high yield and low cost by packing metal powder, etc., into a metallic pipe opened at one end, subjecting the same to compression molding and hermetically sealing the metallic pipe after vacuum evacuation. CONSTITUTION:Air vent holes 3 are provided to a bottom 2 of the metallic pipe 1 which is sealed at one end, then the metal powder or the powder mixture composed of a metal and ceramics is packed into said pipe. Such pipe is set in a metallic mold 4. A die 5 is then moved along the inside wall of the pipe 1 and the packed powder is cold compressed to form the compression molding 6. The pipe 1 is taken out of the mold 4 and the holes 3 are closed by welding. A cap 7 is then welded to the closed end. After the pipe is hermetically sealed by evacuating the inside thereof to a vacuum from a discharge pipe 8 provided to the cap 7, the cold compression molding 6 is subjected to hot forming pressing at about 400 deg.C. The uniform compression molding 6 is thereby obtd. easily at the high yield and low cost.
