PURPOSE:To obtain an image of excellent quality by electrostatically charging a transfer material carried by a carrying means by the practically same charging conditions as transfer conditions prior to the transfer of the image. CONSTITUTION:In an image forming device for forming images on image carriers 1a-1d by image forming parts Pa-Pd having the image carriers 1a-1d and transferring the images to the transfer material 6 carried by the carrying means 8, the transfer material 6 on the carrying means 8 is charged under the practically same conditions as the transfer conditions prior to the image transfer. Preferably, charge to be applied to the transfer material 6 prior to the image transfer is attracting charge for attracting the transfer material 6 to the carrying means 8 and voltage with the same polarity as transfer discharge current is impressed to attracting chargers 59, 62 arranged on the same side as transfer chargers 4a-4d about the carrying means 8. A current value flowing into the carrying means 8 direction is the same or more as a current value flowing into the carrying means 8 direction from the transfer discharger arranged immediately after said transfer discharger 4a-4d.
