PURPOSE:To realize the high speed transfer rate corresponding to a small-sized and high-definition VTR by housing a head for recording and reproducing an electron beam, recording medium and signal detecting means into a vacuum container. CONSTITUTION:A head 30 for recording and reproducing the electron beam, recording medium 5 and signal detecting means 3 are housed in the vacuum container 1. For example, the vacuum container 1 is made of stainless, molded integrally and at the time of the use, the internal part is exhausted to 10<-4>torr or below. The exhausting is executed at a manufacturing step, and as the measure when an air pressure is reduced later on, the exhaust port (exhaust valve) for exhausting may be provided beforehand. By housing the head for recording and reproducing the electron beam, the recording medium and signal detecting means are equipped into the vacuum container, the stability of the electron beam irradiation and the service life of recording medium can be extended.
