PURPOSE:To obtain the title compsn. having excellent thermal stability, by adding a metal salt of an org. sulfonic acid and/or a metal salt of a sulfuric ester to a styrene resin compsn. contg. a brominated flame retarder. CONSTITUTION:0.05-5.0pts. (by weight; the same applies hereinbelow) metal salt of an org. sulfonic acid and/or a metal salt of a sulfuric ester (a) of formula I or II (wherein R<1> is an alkyl, an alkylene, an alkenyl, an alkoxy, phenyl, naphtyl or phenyloxy; R<2> is an alkyl; n, m and p are each 1-4; M is a mono- to tetravalent metal) (e.g., sodium p-toluenesulfonate) and optionally, an organotin maleate compd. (b) of formula III or IV [wherein R<3> is an (alkoxy) alkyl, a cycloalkyl, an alkenyl or an aralkyl; R<4> is R<2>; A is an alkenyl or an aralkyl; R<4> is R<2>; A is oxygen or a group of formula V; K is 0-1; q is 1-)] are added to 100pts. styrene resin compsn. (c) contg. a brominated flame retarder obtd. by adding 5-35pts. brominated flame retarder (e.g., tetrabromobisphenol A) to 100pts. styrene resin.
