The device is fixed to the wall 6 by the vertical leg 3 of an angle iron whose horizontal leg 4 carries a receptacle 5 for a tear gas canister or the like 11. A movable plate 13 carrying a percussion device 14 is articulated at 15 onto the leg 3. A spring 18 tensions it towards the leg 4. A strut 16 which is integral with an arm 19 holds it in place. When the door 1 is opened by an intruder, the arm 19 knocks out the strut and the percussion device 14 activates the tear gas canister. The device can also be used near the ground, it being possible to stretch a nylon line between the strut 16 and a fixed point of the premises. <IMAGE>
