As connecting element between a gas chromatograph and an IR spectrometer, use is made of apparatus having a cooled carrier (support) (30) on the surface of which are deposited the substances brought from the gas chromatograph, where they can then be spectroscopically examined. The examination of a new sample requires the evaporation of the previously deposited substances. The heating and recooling of the carrier (30) required for this purpose has hitherto taken a very long time. Furthermore, the heating of the carrier was limited to temperatures at which not all substances could be completely removed from the surface of the carrier. By means of a thermal decoupling of carrier (30) and cooling apparatus (5, 7) it is possible both to heat the carrier (30) to higher temperatures and to reduce the time required for a measurement cycle, because such decoupling results in no heating of the cooling apparatus (5, 7), but the heating remains limited to the small mass of the carrier (30). Possible forms of a separable thermal coupling comprise a separable, heat-conducting mechanical connection (44, 92), a gas flow which can be switched off or else transport of the carrier from a cooling zone to a heating zone. <IMAGE> |
