PURPOSE:To provide a permanent magnet having high performance and at a low cost by anisotropically crystallizing a macro-structure to be formed in a fine columnar crystal at the time of casting in a composition of a magnet which mainly contains rare earth element, transition metal and boron as basic components. CONSTITUTION:In a magnet which mainly contains rare earth element (including Y), a transition metal and boron, the macro-structure of the magnet is crystallized anisotropically in a columnar crystal. For example, the macro-structure is heat treated at 250 deg.C or higher by melting and casting to be crystallized in a columnar crystal, magnetically cured, or hot worked, for example, at 500 deg.C or higher, after melting and casting to orient the crystal axis of crystal grains in a specific direction anisotropically. Thus, a magnet having high performance can be obtained merely by heat treating without pulverizing a cast ingot to enhance its productivity. |
