PURPOSE:To make it possible to polish workpieces having different dimensions with a high degree of accuracy, by constituting a support device with a workpiece support shaft and first and second swingable members, and by allowing a point corresponding to the spherical center of a tommy sphere as an imaginary center to exist at an arbitrary position so as to decrease the polishing angle. CONSTITUTION:The axis X1 as a swinging center of a first swingable member 7, the axis Y1 as a swinging center of a second swingable member 13 and the axis Z1 as a rotating center of a workpiece support shaft 23 are orthogonal to each other and are crossed together at one point O1. Further the point O1 is set so as to be positioned on a line P1N1 which is tangential to the cuter periphery of a convex lens 22 at the point P1. That is, the polishing angle is set to 0 deg. Then, the first and second swingable members 7, 13 are swung to swing the workpiece support shaft 23 and the convex lens 22, and a polishing pan is rotated to polish a part of the convex lens to be polished. With this arrangement, since the polishing angle is set to 0 deg., stable polishing may be carried out, thereby it is possible to polish the workpiece with a high degree of accuracy. |
