<p>A camera supporting tripod (10) with a hip (18) to which legs (40, 42, 44) are attached. The legs (40, 42, 44) are adjustable as to length. In addition, the tripod (10) includes a center shaft (14) mounted to the hip (18) for tilting movement. Center shaft (14) is also adjustable as to length. Manually actuated hydraulic mechanisms are provided for releasably holding the legs (40, 42, 44) as to length, for releasably locking the center shaft (14) to the hip (18) to prevent relative tilting, and for releasably holding the shaft (14) at the length to which it is adjusted. An instrument supporting head (12) on the tripod (10) includes friction brake panning and tilting mechanisms designed to apply a variable drag to these motions and also for smooth operation.</p> |
