PURPOSE:To stably obtain good flatness irrespective of a plate width, the yielding point in the longitudinal direction, the unevenness in plate thickness, etc., by adjusting the strip locking force on an extension roll and pressing roll by the flatness of the metal strip detected at the rear step side by a flatness correction device. CONSTITUTION:A metal strop 5 moves in the axial direction respectively the extension roll 1 on which the crowing reducing the diameter toward a roll end is executed at one part end of the opposing position each other and a pressing roll 2 and a defective flatness is thus straightened. At the outlet port side of this flatness correction device the roll 6 divided into plural pieces in the width direction for detecting the flatness of the metal strip 5 is provided and the tension distribution in the longituddinal direction and flatness are operated by arithmetic unit 8 from the individual roll reaction force detected by a load cell 7. Based on the flatness of the metal strip 5, the locking force of the metal strip 5 by the rolls 1, 2 is adjusted with a cylinder 92.
