PURPOSE:To extend the life of an endless wire rope and to permit an easy threading operation by circulating and running the wire rope in the directions of the inlet and outlet side of an annealing furnace and connecting one end of a steel strip to said rope via a traction rope. CONSTITUTION:In-furnace rolls 2 are disposed in the continuous annealing furnace 1 and the steel strip 3 to be treated in the furnace passes along said rolls. The wire rope 6 is put on drum devices 5 on the inlet and outlet sides of the furnace 1 and is kept rotated at all times at a low speed so as to be moved on threading tiles 4 disposed in the furnace on the upper side of the rolls 2. The part exposed to the outside of the furnace is cooled by an air fan 7. The rope 6 is removed from the tiles 4 on the inlet or outlet side of the furnace and is taken up by the device 5 so as to be brought to the position of 6a in the case of executing threading operation. The traction rope 8 is connected with a fastening metal 12 and the end of the steel strip 3 is connected to the rope 8, then the rope is taken up by the device 5 from the inlet side to the outlet side of the furnace or reverse, by which the steel strip 3 is passed through the furnace.
