PURPOSE:To obtain the titled polymer at a low polymerization voltage without causing decomposition of a solvent, deterioration of polymer film quality, etc., by electrolytically and oxidatively polymerizing biphenyl and p-terphenyl as monomers. CONSTITUTION:Biphenyl expressed by formula I or p-terphenyl expressed by formula II or both as monomers are dissolved in a solvent, e.g. nitrobenzene, etc., and a supporting electrolyte, e.g. CuCl2, etc., is added to form an electrolytic bath. Electrodes are dipped therein to pass a DC current across both electrodes to carry out electrolytic and oxidative polymerization. Thereby the aimed polymer is obtained.
