PURPOSE:To unify the direction of a surface and to shorten an access time by judging the direction of the surface with a lever means, inverting a cartridge to 180 deg. when the direction is opposite and inserting it into a housing shelf when the cartridge is inserted into a mobile body. CONSTITUTION:On the surface 727 of the mobile body 703 to house a cartridge 200, a lever 728 is supported pivotally, and an edge part 730 is engaged with the rear part 108 of the cartridge 200 through a window 731 provided at the surface 727. At this time, the edge part 729 of the lever 728 is detected by a photosensor 732, and for this condition, a controller judges that the A surface for the disk in the cartridge 200 is in a downward direction. When the edge part 730 is fitted to the groove in front of the rear part provided at the cartridge 200, it is judged that the edge part 729 is not detected at the sensor 732 and a B surface is in the downward direction. A carrier inverts the cartridge 200 to 180 deg. and inserts it into the housing shelf. Thus, since the surface of the cartridge of the housing shelf is unified, an access time can be shortened.
