PURPOSE:To produce a Cu coated steel sheet having superior corrosion resistance, suitability to joining by soldering, brazing or other method and superior adhesion between the Cu coating layer and the base steel sheet by forming a Cu coating layer of a specified thickness having a Cu diffusion layer on the surface of a steel sheet contg. Cr. CONSTITUTION:A steel slab contg., by weight, <0.30% C, 0.005-0.10% acid-sol. Al and 1.5-20% Cr or further contg. one or more among 0.05-1.0% Cu, 0.05-10% Ni and 0.05-0.5% Mo is hot rolled and cold rolled to manufactured a steel sheet. After the steel sheet is optionally annealed, a Cu coating layer of 0.5-15mum thickness having a Cu diffusion layer of 0.1-3mum thickness is formed on the surface of the steel sheet to obtain a Cu coated steel sheet having superior mechanical strength, corrosion resistance and suitability to joining by soldering, brazing or other method and suitable for use as building materials such as a wall material or as stock for an IC lead frame.
