PURPOSE:To enable a printing ribbon to be repeatedly used a plurality of times, by using the printing ribbon while taking it up in a forward direction concurrently with printing, and each time the printing is finished and a carriage return is made, rewinding the ribbon in the reverse direction by a length equal to the sum of the ribbon length which has been taken up and a ribbon length necessary for printing in the next line. CONSTITUTION:Where the direction in which a printing ribbon is taken up while being used is rightward (a), printing is stopped when a part 15 to be detected comes near a ribbon end detector 13, the ribbon 10 is rewound from a take-up spool 8 to a payout spool 9 by an amount corresponding to residual data, and printing of the residual data is performed by taking up the ribbon in the forward direction C to the side of the spool B. When the printing is finished and a carriage 4 is moved leftward, the ribbon length having been taken up around the spool 8 concurrently with the printing and a ribbon length necessary for printing in the next line are rewound (d), (e) to the side of the spool 9, and then printing in one line is performed with forward ribbon take-up (f), (g) to the side of the spool 8. When a ribbon end is reached as a result of printing, the ribbon direction is reversed, and multi-time printing can be performed. |
