PURPOSE:To prevent the leakage of a secret document by means of a comparative simple constitution even it it is wire-tapped directly by providing a cipher processing part in a facsimile equipment. CONSTITUTION:The output signal of an original reading part 15 is given to and compressed by a compression circuit 16 to constitute a compressing and restoring part 12, and the output signal of the compression circuit 16 is given to and enciphered by an encipherment circuit 17 to costitute a cipher processing part 13. The output signal of the encipherment circuit 17 is given to and modulated by a MODEM 14, and transmitted to an external part. On the other hand, a picture signal transmitted from the external part is demodulated by the MO DEM 14, and is given to and decoded by a decoding circuit 18 to constitute the cipher processing part 13, and the output signal of the decoding circuit 18 is given to and restored by a restoration circuit 19 into a state before the compression. Thus, even when the picture signal transmitted from the MODEM 14 is wire-tapped, a true information does not leak unless it is processed by a decoding process corresponding to the encipherment of the cipher processing part 13.
