PURPOSE:To obtain a compact picture switching system together with simple operations by using the switch keys to switch pictures every single picture and plural pictures. CONSTITUTION:An electronic information retrieval/display system contains a retrieving device 1 which retrieves electronically the information on each display picture, a display device 2 for said retrieved information, and a one-step advance key K1 - a 100-step retreat key K6 which designate the following display pictured to be retrieved and displayed, the monopulse generating circuits 41-46, and an addition/subtraction circuit 3. When display is desired for a 523-step preceding picture, for example, a 100-step advance key K5 is pushed 5 times together with a 10-step advance key K3 pushed twice and a one-step advance key K1 pushed 3 times respectively. Thus +523 is given to the device 1 from the circuit 3 and the picture under presently display is immediately switched to the 523-step preceding picture.
