PURPOSE:To improve mechanical strength in a sealing part by adding either material out of corpuscles of ZnO2, fibrous matters of Al2O3, Si3N4, or SiC to a low-melting-point glass whose main component is PbO and which is used for sealing a panel with a funnel. CONSTITUTION:Either material out of corpuscles of ZrO2, fibrous matters of Al2O3, Si3N4, and SiC is added/mixed to a group PbO-ZnO-B2O3-SiO2 low- melting-point glass which is used for sealing a panel 11 with a funnel 12 in a color picture tube. While viscosity of this mixture is regulated, a sealing part of the funnel 12 is coated with this mixture and dried, and next the panel 11 is placed on this part and heated/fixed by a heating furnace. After this glass is cooled, a prescribed electrode is inserted into a lower end of a neck part 14 and the inside of the glass is vacuumized by sealing and exhaustion. In a tube manufactured in this way, mechanical strength in the sealing part of the panel and the funnel becomes large and so reliability can be improved.
