A nuclear substd. cinnamoyl amino anthranilic acid deriv. of formular (I), useful for treatment of allergic disease, is prepd. by hydrolysis of formula (II). Prepn. of (II) comprises reacting an aromatic aldehyde deriv. with 2-carboxymalonanilic acid and a cyclic amine in an inert organic solvent e.g. benzene or toluene. In the formulas, R1 and R2 is OH or alkoxy; X is methylene or O; n is 1 or 2 (when x=0, n=2). The process gives compd. of (I) in high purity and yield.
