Theatre stages, especially those with a multipurpose character in municipal theatres and similar houses, are used both for theatrical and for musical performances of all types. Theatrical performances generally require a reduced stage opening width of 7-8 metres and possibilities of entering from both sides, even for relatively large groups of players. Choral or orchestral performances, by contrast, are intended, for reasons of space and spatial acoustics, to use the whole width of the hall as far as possible, with no lateral restriction, and need a minimum width of about 12 metres. The width of the inner frame is changed by displaceable frame towers (lighting supports) or, if necessary, additionally by the main stage curtain. The lateral limitation of the performing surface is generally formed by centrifugal curtains running in stationary rails, which can be changed only with great difficulty. By contrast, the comb-type panorama device, which can be lowered, permits not only easy interchangeability but also ideal adaptation of the individual curtain scarves, which can be threaded as desired into the tension rods which are angled in the manner of a comb, to the requirements of the particular performance. Figure 1 shows the arrangement of the lateral scarves for musical performances, and Figure 2, in contrast, the arrangement for theatrical performances. <IMAGE>
