The rapid dropping of the opening pressure of an injection nozzle in the operation of an internal combustion engine as a cause of increased smoke is overcome by the selection of a low value for the so-called hydraulic ratio of the injection nozzle, by which is meant the ratio of the square of the diameter of the lapped cylindrical part of the differential needle in the body of the injection nozzle to the square of the greatest diameter of the lower conical end of the differential needle by means of which the differential needle is seated in the conical seat in the body of the injection nozzle. <IMAGE>
