The device serves as an anti-theft safety device in motor vehicles and has a rotatable cylinder (5) of a lock (3), which cylinder is axially displaceable, as a result of the insertion of the key (K), out of a rear position into a front position and has a rotor (10) with cams, which serves for the direct adjustment of a bolt (13) for blocking the rotation of the steering column (A) of a vehicle. The device is provided with safety means for preventing the unintentional engagement of the bolt (13), comprising a retaining element (18) which is rotatable together with the rotor (10) and which can be displaced in the axial direction relative to this rotor, in order to co-operate with a counterpiece (15, 29) connected fixedly to the bolt (13). <IMAGE>
