PURPOSE:To correctly detect a synchronizing pattern by generating a window pulse to a synchronizing pattern position from a reproduced control signal. CONSTITUTION:A time code from a head 22 is fed to a synchronizing pattern detection circuit 26 via a serial/parallel conversion circuit 25. A reproducing control signal from a head 17 is fed to a window pulse generating circuit 29 as a reproduced frame pulse via a frame pulse reproducing circuit 28 to obtain a window pulse having a pulse width including a synchronizing pattern period of the time code and the result is fed to the circuit 26. The circuit 26 is enabled by the period of the pulse width of the window pulse and the coincidence between a 14-bit data from the circuit 25 and a predetermined synchronizing pattern is detected during the period only to detect the synchronizing pattern in the time code correctly.
