PURPOSE:To store lots of documents without increasing the storage capacity by providing a 1st coder/decoder having a standard compression system and a 2nd coder/decoder compressing picture information with lesser redundancy than the former system. CONSTITUTION:The picture information sent from an opposite facsimile equipment is transferred to a CODEC 5 via a line adaptor 6. The CODEC 5 restores the picture information compressed by the standard system into the original image information tentatively and stores the result to a frame memory 4. Then the image information is transferred to a CODEC 3, where the information is compressed and coded by the non-standard but less redundant system and the result is stored in an optical disk device 1 via a buffer memory 2.
