PURPOSE:To obtain a novel image information recording and reproducing method showing high reliability and sensitivity, by bringing heating elements into contact with a thermal recording layer comprising an organometallic complex and a polymer, decomposing the organometallic complex to form a metallic layer, thereby recording image information, and reading the recorded image information by utilizing the difference in optical characteristics between the area of the metallic layer and other areas. CONSTITUTION:In this image information recording and reproducing method, heating elements are brought into contact with the surface of a thermal recording layer of a thermal recording medium which layer, provided on a base, comprises an organometallic complex and a polymer, then the elements in a desired area are operated to generate heat, whereby the complex in the area is decomposed to form a metallic layer, resulting in recording of the image information in the thermal recording layer. At a desired time, the recorded image information is read by utilizing the difference in optical charactaristics between the area of the metallic layer and the other areas in the thermal recording layer. The recorded image thus obtained is free of deterioration in quality even when preserved for a long time. |
