The solar collector comprises a plate (1) exposed to solar radiation (2) and a line (3,6) which has a portion in heat transmitting contact with the plate. This portion contains a heat transfer medium to heat e.g. water in a storage vessel (5). The plate is rectangular with a width/length ratio of 1:3 to 1:30, while the line with storage vessel are adjacent to the plate and comprisessuch that the normal projection on the plate lies within its perimeter. The vessel is pref. parallel to the plate dimensioned together with the closed-circuit line forms a modular unit.
