PURPOSE:To shorten the access time by combining a semiconductor memory and a small-sized magnetic disk device and using the semiconductor memory for data transfer from/to a higher device. CONSTITUTION:Data on a magnetic disk is reloaded onto a semiconductor memory 120 at the time of power-on, and this reloaded data is read/written. Then, data is read/written at a high speed without operating a head of the magnetic disk. During this power-on period, the charging state is held for the purpose of fully charging a battery 130. Since power is supplied from this fully charged battery 130 to the magnetic disk and the semiconductor memory 120 to save data in the semiconductor memory 120 to the magnetic disk at the time of power break of power failure, data is not lost. Since power supply from the battery 130 is stopped after data saving and it is not discharged thereafter, the extent of discharge of the battery 130 is minimized. |
