PURPOSE:To attain the recording without wear even with repetitive reproduction by radiating a light having a characteristic giving sense to an optical reactive chemical compound to a medium so as to amplify optical information at a high amplification factor. CONSTITUTION:An optical reactive chemical compound having a thermotropic liquid crystal forming ability and a chemical forming a thermotropic liquid crystal phase are put in two transparent thin film cells 5 and polarizers 4, 6 are set to both sides of the cell so that the polarized directions are made orthogonal. The optical information is stored in a medium by the radiation of light of a wavelength region sensed with the optical reactive chemical compound from a spectral radiator 1 to cause optical reaction and the change in the set arrangement or arranging state of liquid crystal molecules. Moreover, the stored optical information is read by radiating the monitor light at a wavelength region not stimulated for optical reaction from a laser 2 through the change in the scattering intensity, reflectance or transmittivity and an amplification factor of 10<2> times or over of the optical reaction is obtained. |
