Alloy contains in wt. % 12-30 Si, 0.3-7 Cu, optionally 0.3-2 N/g, balance Al. at least 60% of the prim. Si crystals have a particle size of 48-80 microns and at least 60% of the eutectic Si crystals have a particle size up to 10 microns. The primary and eutectic crystals are uniformily dispersed through the structure. The alloy may also contain 0.5-3% Ni, Fe, Mn, 0.005-0.1 % P, Sr, and 0.1-1% Sn, Pb, Bi. The cast billet may be extruded at 350-420 deg.C, with an extruding ram speed of 0.03-0.2 m/min. and an extrusion ratio of 10-40.
