PURPOSE:To form a molten metal into a circular fine wire having good strippability in the production of the fine wire from the molten metal by means of a rotating water-cooled roll by forming a layer of a slightly wettable material on the surface of the roll to improve the sectional area by the surface tension of the molten metal. CONSTITUTION:A molten metal 15 in a nozzle 12 is ejected by a pressure controller 16 at a proper speed onto an internally water-cooled rotating roll 11. The surface of the roll 11 is covered by a thin water film 32 formed of a water feed pipe 21 and an air blow pipe 20. The molten metal 19 charged onto the roll 11 is made circular in section by surface tension without sticking thereon on account of the slight wettability with water. A groove 31 may be provided on the surface 11 of the roll. A fine wire 19 which is made roughly circular by the roll 11 and is cooled to solidify passes through forming rolls 24 and is taken up on a take-up roll 25. The welding of the molten metal on the roll 11 is obviated by the slight wettability of the water film, thereby obtaining the satisfactory fine wire having the circular section. |
