PURPOSE:To contrive to miniaturize a repeater by constituting plural repeaters in such a way that regenerative repeating is applied to each pair of n-pair of optical fibers through the regenerative repeating function of the repeaters arranged at an interval being plural number of times of the unit repeater interval. CONSTITUTION:In applying relay transmission through the use of n-pair of optical fibers in general, 2n/k sets of regenerative repeating circuits are mounted in a repeater, where (k) is a divisor of the number (n). Each repeater is applied with regenerative repeating to n/k-pair of optical fibers and relays the remaining k-1/n pairs of optical fibers not through the regenerative repeating circuits. For example, in a transmission system using 4-pair of optical fibers 2, the number of regenerative repeating circuits in one repeater 1a is decreased from 8 circuits into 4 circuits, and instead a repeater 1a is provided newly at a location corresponding to an adjacent joint box to attain the recovery/relay to the remaining 2-pair of optical fibers. Thus, 4 sets of regenerative repeating circuits are enough for the application to be mounted in the repeater 1a thereby miniaturizing the repeater. |
