PURPOSE:To permit grinding while profiling a non-circular inner surface, by setting a rocking locus formed of a reciprocating motion of a rocking table caused by a cam mechanism and a rotational motion of a second spindle in such a manner that it coincides with a contour of a non-circular inner surface of a workpiece mounted on the second spindle. CONSTITUTION:A grindstone unit 2 and a workpiece holding unit 4 are synchronously driven each other, driving of the grindstone unit 2 causing a hone head 8 mounted on a first spindle 7 to reciprocate in an axial direction of a workpiece 3, while driving of the workpiece holding unit 4 causing a second spindle 33 to rotate. A cam mechanism 32 causes a rocking table 31 to reciprocate in synchronism with a rotational motion of the second spindle 33 for thereby allowing a rocking locus formed of the reciprocating motion of the rocking table 31 and the rotational motion of the second spindle 33 to coincide with a contour of a non-circular inner surface of a workpiece mounted on the second spindle 33. As a result, a grindstone of the hone head 8 can effect grinding while profiling the non-circular surface of the workpiece 3. |
