The invention relates to a mechanism 10 for controlling a miniature circuit breaker comprising a handle 22 coupled to a transmission rod 26 to form a bell-crank 28, a pivoting support device 50, 40 for the moving contact 12, having a catch 38 cooperating by ratcheting with the rod 26, and a trip lever 48 driven by the trip unit in order to bring about breakage of the catch 38 inducing automatic tripping, independently of the handle 22. The trip lever 48 is connected to a restoring spring 76 formed by an elastic blade, able to be in a first state of stress, during automatic resetting, and in a second state of neutralisation in the closure position of the handle 22. This results in a low tripping force being sufficient to overcome the locking effort exerted on the catch in the set position. At the end of the opening stroke, the moving element is braked progressively by a wedge 87 abutting with a curvilinear ramp 88, so as to prevent any chatter following a short-circuit. <IMAGE>
