摘要 PURPOSE:To obtain an inexpensive high-performance thermal head, by applying a solvent comprising a polyimidic acid as a main constituent to a major surface of a metallic base, heating it to provide a polyimide layer, thermocompression- bonding a polyimide film to the layer, and providing heat generating resistors. CONSTITUTION:A surface of a metallic base is surface treated by a mechanical treatment such as sandblasting, a chemical treatment such as an acid treatment, or the like. A solvent comprising a polyimidic acid as a main constituent is then applied to the treated surface in a thin form by a roll coater or a spin coater, is dried and cured by a baking furnace or the like to effect conversion to an imide, thereby providing a polyimide layer. A polyimide film having a predetermined thickness id then thermocompression bonded to the polyimide layer under the conditions of a temperature of 250-380 deg.C and a pressure of 20-70kg/cm<2>. A high-resistance base for a thermal head thus obtained can be used up to the temperature representing the heat resistance of the polyimide itself, and has excellent bendability and bond strength and excellent film thickness uniformity and surface properties. Therefore, an inexpensive thermal head having excellent performance can be obtained.
