A circuit arrangement for regulated high-energy pulse generation for gas-discharge flash lamps. A very bright and well reproducible light source is required for many technical applications. A large number of optoelectronic measurement methods can be implemented, using the single-beam method, with such a reference flash. Until now, it was necessary to work using the two-beam method in the case of such measurement methods, in the case of which two-beam method the instantaneous illumination intensity and spectral distribution of the light of the flash lamp must also be detected by metrology means. By operating the flash lamp using a constant high-current source with a current intensity of up to several hundred amperes, a constant illumination intensity, which can be reproduced well in terms of time, is produced, to a first approximation. Further improvements of the time constancy of the illumination intensity have been achieved by further variants of the circuit arrangement. Such well reproducible lighting devices are required for rapid colour measurement. Such reference flashes open up a wide range of applications in optoelectronic metrology and physical electronics. The large number of application possibilities include turbidity measurement in liquids, spectrometry and the optimisation of optoelectronic components (sensors, solar generators).
