PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as a raw material for polyamide, etc., in high yield, by partially reducing a monocyclic aromatic hydrocarbon in the presence of water and a solid basic zinc salt using a highly active specific catalyst system composed of a main catalyst and other components and stable over a long period. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound can be produced by partially reducing a monocyclic aromatic hydrocarbon with hydrogen under neutral or acidic condition in the presence of at least one kind of a solid basic zinc salt (prefer ably basic zinc sulfate) and water, using a catalyst system comprising (A) a hydrogenated catalyst particle composed mainly of metallic ruthenium having an average crystal particle diameter of <=200Angstrom , preferably <=100Angstrom or a reduc tion product of ruthenium doped with zinc and (B) hydrate of hydroxide or oxide of one or more metals selected from Ti, Zr, Hf, Nb, Ta, Cr, etc., (prefer ably Zr hydroxide). |
