The articles (2), brought into the upright position by a conveyor (1), arrive on an accumulation table (4) where they are divided into parallel corridors in order to form rows of articles at the ends of these corridors. A vertically displaceable mobile apron (15) permits a row of articles (2) to be raised to a certain height (H) above the accumulation table (4). A gripping assembly (34) is provided in order to grasp simultaneously a row of articles (2) thus brought to the height (H) above the table (4), another row of articles (2) being maintained at the level of this table (4), in order to lay these articles down and deposit them in a container (3).
