PURPOSE:To increase the production rate of acetic acid, by keeping the concentration of dissolved hydrogen in a culture medium at a constant value or below in a method for producing the acetic acid from carbon dioxide and hydrogen by a microorganism. CONSTITUTION:A microorganism, e.g. Acetobacterium sp. No.446, Clostridium sp. No.307, etc., is cultivated in a liquid culture medium containing carbon dioxide and hydrogen as essential components. At this time, the concentration of dissolved hydrogen in the liquid culture medium must be kept at <=2.5X10<-4>mol/l in the cultivation period. Thereby the production rate of acetic acid is increased. The concentration of the dissolved hydrogen is adjusted by controlling the feed flow rate of the hydrogen gas, the hydrogen partial pressure of the feed gas, the amount of the carrier storing the hydrogen, etc. The cultivation is carried out in an anaerobic atmosphere. |
