PURPOSE:To produce a rare earth element magnet having superior magnetic characteristics at a low cost by immersing a sintered body of powder contg. Nd, Fe and B as principal components in a molten Pb alloy and by holding the sintered body at a specified temp. to simultaneously carry out aging and surface treatment. CONSTITUTION:An R2T14B magnet contg. Nd, Fe and B as principal components (R is Y and rare earth elements such as Ce, Pr, Nd, Gd, Tb, Dy and Ho and T is al and transition metals such as Cr, Mn, Fe, Co and Ni) is produced by powder metallurgical processing. When the magnet is produced, R2T14B powder is compacted in a magnetic field and sintered at about 1,000-1,150 deg.C in an inert gaseous atmosphere. The sintered body is immersed in a molten Pb alloy having <=700 deg.C m.p. in the air and held at 470-700 deg.C to simultaneously carry out aging for improving the magnetic characteristics and surface treatment for improving the oxidation resistance. |
