PURPOSE:To make a strong electrode plate in a short term, by bringing reactive gas containing CO2 gas of a density higher than the atmosphere into contact with a surface of paste composed of lead power filled in grates and sulphuric acid for forming a protection layer for protecting the paste. CONSTITUTION:Grates forming an electrode plate is filled with paste composed of lead powder and sulphuric acid mixed with water to a paste state. Next, the electrode plate with the past filled thereto is accommodated in a closed vessel or chamber and reactive gas containing CO2 gas of a density higher than the atmosphere is introduced into the vessel or the chamber to be brought into contact with a surface of the paste to form a protection layer making the surface of the paste as a basic lead compound. With the arrangement, a rigid electrode plate with high physical strength is obtained. The density of the CO2 gas is preferably of 3-5 vol%. |
