摘要 PURPOSE:To extend a using extent of a glass laser so that laser oscillations of 1.5 mum that has five times the slope efficiency and twice the oscillation threshold achieved with conventional technology can be performed with a stable and low electric power at room temperature by using a slab-type erbium glass laser instead of a rod type laser glass. CONSTITUTION:A slab-type erbium glass laser 1 where ytterbium is doped has parallel optically polished planes 2 and 2' as well as optically polished planes 3 and 3' forming an angle of polarization. 4 represents an optical part of a laser beam in a glass 1, 5 is a flashing lamp for an excitation light, 6 and 6' are power supply terminals for the above lamp. 7 is a reflecting mirror having curvature of 1 m and a coating having a reflecting power of 100% to a light of 1.3 mum is conducted on the curved surface 8 with a vaporization process. 9 represents an output mirror and a coating laser having the reflecting power of 90% to the light of 1.5 mum as well as a coating having the permeability of 100% to the light of 1.5 mum are performed on the surface 10 of erbium glass 1 and on the surface 11 located in the opposition direction of 10 respectively with the vaporization. An electric power is supplied to the flashing lamp 5 and excitation is carried out at a pulse width 2.5 m sec. An excited state allows an input to the excitation light flashing lamp to increase gradually and obtain a laser light output of 1.5 mum. As a result, the slope efficiency comes to 0.99% and the oscillation threshold is 10 joules.
