The invention relates to a method of manufacturing a bar comprising a powdery core jacketed with a metallic material. The objective of the invention is to obtain a bar in which the powder is sufficiently densified, but the metal jacket is not deformed. This objective is achieved using a method consisting in: - filling a metal cylinder (1) with a powder (5), - placing a plug (7) on top of this powder, - closing off the end of the cylinder by means of a tap (11) pierced with channels (31), - plunging the said cylinder (1) in a tank (13) filled with liquid (15) and fitted with an extrusion die (17), - pressurising this liquid (15) at room temperature so as to move the plug (7) inside the cylinder and to deform this cylinder in order to densify the powder (5), and - subjecting this cylinder (1) to cold hydrostatic extrusion.
