The invention relates to a windscreen wiper for vehicles, the wiper blade of which is moved such that it runs to and fro in a translatory manner pressed against the windscreen surface. In the case of this windscreen wiper, the penetration of dirt and dust into the guide boxes serving as a rail, is prevented by a flexible gap-covering steel tape attached immovably on one side to the gap. Within the guide boxes effective lubrication is thus made possible. Despite the wiper-blade end stub moving to and fro in the gap, the perfect covering is not prevented because the end stub is also made from a thin steel tape and only raises the flexible gap-covering steel tape in the particular guide region. <IMAGE>
