Data memory which can be read in a structured way

The core of the invention is a data memory which can be used universally and which can be read under microprogram control without help from a higher-level computer. For image processing tasks, a freely programmable scan control in an image memory, not linked to a fixed row or column structure, can be implemented using the invention. In this way, image scenes can be searched quickly for specified image segments, for contour detection and pattern recognition purposes. The scan pattern can be preset by hard wiring, or loaded from (by) a higher-level computer into the microprogram memory, according to the application.
